Chapter 389
(Victoria's POV)
At the moment the silver-edged blade was about to strike, I did not close my eyes. I just looked at Ethan Stone.
Deep down, there was also a heart-wrenching pain. The Alpha King I deeply loved truly hated me, wishing for my death.
His amber eyes burned with such fury that my wolf whimpered and retreated deeper within me. The blade gleamed in the dim warehouse light, poised to end everything.
But amidst the complex emotions, the expected pain did not come. The silver- edged hunting knife did aim for my heart, but it stopped just as it was about to pierce my chest.
My eyes lit up, and I blurted out almost instinctively, "Ethan, you can't bear to kill me, can you? You still have feelings for me, don't you?"
Hope flared in my chest like a desperate flame. Maybe there was still something left of what we once shared.
Ethan sneered, his amber gaze towards me filled with bone-chilling coldness. He changed the direction of the blade, pressing it against my scarred wounds.
"I just don't want to dirty my hands. Death was too easy for you."
The silver burned against my torn flesh, and I screamed as fresh agony tore through me. My wolf cowered in terror at the Alpha's dominance.
"Victoria Frost, your tricks don't work on me. I will personally send you to silver prison and make you suffer more than death."
Although hearing about Silver Prison made me tremble with fear, hearing that I wouldn't die made me visibly relax. Everyone was afraid of death, especially someone as refined as me.
Silver Prison was notorious throughout werewolf territories. The cells were lined with silver that constantly weakened imprisoned wolves, making every day a torment.
But it was still better than death. I could survive this. I could find a way out eventually.
My breathing steadied slightly, though my wounds still throbbed with silver poisoning. At least I would live to see another day.
(Third Person's POV)
Ethan watched Victoria's expression and sneered inwardly. She thought going to prison was a way out, but little she knew, it was just the beginning of her suffering.
He would make her suffer in prison, living a life worse than death. Only then could he comfort the spirits of Lily and Matriarch Evelyn in the ancestral hunting grounds.
His amber eyes glowed with cold satisfaction as he stepped back from Victoria's bleeding form. Connor stood nearby, his gray eyes still burning with grief and rage.
An hour later, Northern Territory Enforcers, having received Ethan Stone's call, arrived at the abandoned warehouse. Victoria was released by the enforcement officers.
As soon as she was let down, her wrists were bound with silver-lined restraints. The metal burned against her skin, making her gasp in pain.
"Victoria Frost, you are suspected of a murder-for-hire case. You are now under arrest."
The lead enforcer's voice was cold and professional. Victoria was in so much pain that she was almost fainting as she was taken into the enforcement vehicle.
The silver restraints drained what little strength she had left. Her wolf was completely suppressed, leaving her feeling hollow and weak.
When the enforcers moved to arrest Connor Blackthorn, Ethan stepped forward. His Alpha presence commanded immediate respect from the law enforcement team.
"Alpha Stone." The enforcement officer arresting Victoria was very respectful to the Alpha King.
"Could you give Connor Blackthorn another half-day to send his daughter off one last time? My people will be with you, guarding him so he has no chance to escape."
The law was indifferent to emotions. Ethan's request was essentially vouching for Connor, putting his own reputation on the line.
Connor also tearfully begged the enforcers to be lenient and allow him to personally bury his daughter. His gray eyes were red with grief, his wolf howling silently within him.
The enforcers ultimately agreed. Under the watch of several security guards sent by Ethan and two enforcement officers, Connor went to the Silvercrest Pack Medical Den.
The convoy moved through the territory in solemn silence. Connor sat in the back seat, his hands shaking as he thought about seeing Emma one last time.
Ethan had made arrangements, and Connor saw Emma Frost in the Silvercrest Mortuary Chamber. When the white cloth was lifted, Connor saw Emma's injuries and cried out in heartache.
Her small form looked so peaceful, but the medical equipment marks on her arms told the story of her final struggle. Connor's wolf wailed in anguish.
At that moment, he regretted not being harsh enough on Victoria. His daughter had died because of that she-wolf's manipulations and cruelty.
Connor took Emma's body and went to the pack crematorium. Only Connor was there for Emma's cremation, standing alone as the flames consumed his only child.
The ceremony was simple but heartfelt. Connor whispered prayers to the Moon Goddess, begging her to welcome Emma's spirit into the ancestral hunting grounds.
After the cremation, Connor held Emma's ashes and asked the security guards arranged by Ethan to take him back to his hometown territory. The urn felt impossibly light in his trembling hands.
In the back mountain, on his own ancestraÑand, he personally buried Emma according to traditional werewolf customs. He dug the grave with his bare hands, his tears mixing with the earth.
The burial site overlooked a peaceful valley where wildflowers bloomed. Connor believed Emma's spirit would find peace here, far from the corruption that had claimed her life.
Ethan did not see Emma one last time, nor did he attend her funeral. After Victoria was taken away, Ethan called Daniel Reed to follow up the case.
He went to see Matriarch Evelyn Stone's grave, kneeling before her moonstone tombstone. The sacred stones glowed faintly in the moonlight, as if responding to his presence.noveldrama
"Grandmother, you were right, I was a fool, unable to distinguish right from wrong. I am sorry for you, sorry for Lily, and sorry for Olivia."
His voice cracked with emotion as he spoke to the silent grave. The weight of his failures pressed down on him like a physical burden.
"I know Olivia resents me in her heart and won't easily forgive me, but I won't give up. I will definitely seek her forgiveness."

Someday, he would use his sincerity to move Olivia, making her willing to give him another chance. When that time came, he and Olivia would come to pay respects to Grandmother together, and Grandmother would be very happy in the ancestral hunting grounds.
