Don’t Fall for the Billionaire Lover

Chapter 962

It was like there was a blank spot in her memory, as if a chunk of her past had been carved out. The feeling was seriously unsettling. Connor stepped out of the shower, feeling refreshed, and spotted Chloe sitting on the couch, staring blankly at her phone.

He walked over, concern etched on his face. "What's up?"

Chloe looked up, her eyes clouded with worry. "Connor, I feel like I've forgotten something really important."

Connor had noticed Chloe seemed a little off lately. Frustrated, Chloe gave her forehead a gentle tap. "No matter how hard I try, I just can't remember."

Quickly, Connor took her hand, pulling her into a reassuring hug. "Don't stress about it, Chloe. Let's focus on bringing our baby into the world safely. I'm here to keep you safe."

Connor couldn't shake off the unease he felt about Grant and his odd behavior. And then there was that bizarre manor. In the days that followed, he started digging into the manor's history. But there wasn't much to go on. It turned out the place used to be a massive cemetery, a forgotten patch of land the government had abandoned. Most of it was just a jumble of old graves, decades past their prime. There were even grave mounds behind the manor, but that area was Grant's private turf, off-limits to everyone else. Not even drones could get past it.

The manor had signal jammers and anti-surveillance gadgets. That's why, despite being around for years, it still didn't show up on any maps. Conno couldn't find anything concrete, but just the fact that Grant had built such a peculiar manor was odd enough.

Connor hired a private investigator to keep tabs on Grant. After a month of surveillance, everything seemed perfectly normal. Was Connor just overthinking things?

Chloe kept up her weekly

acupuncture sessions at Luna Manor. Yet, each time she saw Grant, she felt this weird, unfamiliar emotion creeping up. Even though he was a familiar face, there were fleeting moments when an inexplicable chill ran through her. Instinctively, she wanted to keep certain things from Grant.

Like a month ago, after leaving Rooster Hill Manor, Chloe had come home to find a note tucked into her coat pocket. It read, "The cycle of karma vengeful spirits claim their due, a substitute in place, may you live a long life." The note was actually a small piece of fabric, and it looked like it was written in blood.

The writing was smudged from being wet, but Chloe could almost make out the handwriting-it seemed like her mentor's. When she stumbled upon it, she was floored. But after mulling over it for ages, she still couldn't crack its meaning. She thought it might be her mentor's handwriting, but she couldn't be sure. Grant could imitate her mentor's script-it might have been his.

And what did the note even mean? Why was that piece of fabric in her coat pocket? What on earth happened at that manor? Chloe knew something unusual must have gone down, but she couldn't recall it. And she decided not to tell Grant about the eerie note.

Time flew by, and Chloe was now in the final stretch of her pregnancy, just a week away from her due date.noveldrama
