Evadne's pupils contracted sharply, her breath hitched.

Avery feigned astonishment, "Evadne, how could it be me? You know my mother's condition; her body was failing, the doctors said she wouldn't make it till next year. I wanted to be with her in her final moments... How could I harm her? She was my mother, my only family!"
