Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Selena was caught off guard for a moment.

For so many years, whenever there was drama between her and any woman around Everett, it always seemed like she was never the one he stood up for. But this time, without even a second thought, he was on her side.

Yet, Mila had just announced she was carrying his child and had been given the grand treatment of hosting at Lakeside Mansion. How could she not be the one he cherished?

Mila, tears streaming down her face, complained, "Everett, your ex-wife can't stand me being in the spotlight. She's jealous and bullied me, and you just hit me without question... I'm pregnant with your child, how could you do this to me, you jerk..."

Everett's temple throbbed with frustration, a smile of disbelief on his face.

"Mila, I'm not blind. I know who bullied whom. And seriously, stop the theatrics. If you think this act will get you into Hollywood, think again."

Selena heard this, her eyebrows knitting in confusion.

Mila persisted, "Everett, what am I acting about? Isn't it true? Are you going to lie to your ex-wife and deny me and the baby?"

Everett sighed, "That's enough, Mila. Is your drama queen phase back? Do I need to call Uncle to take you home?"

Suddenly, a wave of forgotten memories rushed back to Selena. She widened her eyes, taking a good look at Mila.

No wonder Mila seemed familiar; she looked so much like a young Carolina. So... she was from the Adams family, which meant she and Everett were cousins.

Selena remembered that when she first married Everett, she had tried to get to know his family better to please him. She vaguely recalled a cousin he was close to, but since she had married and moved abroad, Selena had never met her, and the memory had faded over time.

Mila watched Selena process this, letting out a quiet sigh of relief. Playing matchmaker for these two was no small task.

Mila dropped the act, rolling her eyes at Everett, "You should've just explained from the start. I went through all this hassle for this little show, and you mock my acting."

Turning to Selena, she said, "Sorry about this, I just wanted Everett to understand his feelings. Otherwise, with his stubbornness, he'd never say anything nice. Anyway, I'm done here. You two have a chat."

With that, Mila confidently spun around and clicked away on her high heels.

The terrace fell into a sudden silence.

Selena took a moment to gather herself, realizing she was still wrapped up in Everett's arms. She quickly tried to push him away, but Everett's grip on her waist held firm.

"Let me go!" Selena frowned, clearly annoyed.

Everett didn't move. He lowered his

head, his dark eyes locking onto

hers, his voice a husky whisper,

"Mila's my cousin. I haven't beennoveldrama

seeing anyone else. I've been on my own this whole time."

Selena's emotions were all over the place.

Knowing there wasn't another woman involved eased a bit of her worry, but their

biggest issue was never about a fake date.

Every time she thought they could move forward, something always seemed to go haywire.

Once, twice, three times... how could she not be worried?

Throughout it all, he had never given her the solid sense of security she craved She never knew when their peace would be shattered again or when their sweet moments would turn into just a mirage.

If that were the case, maybe it was better to keep things as they were.

To be honest, she was quite content with her life as it was.

She had money, time, two adorable kids, another on the way, and a loving family.
