Chapter 943
As Selena took a deep breath, she locked eyes with Everett's intense gaze and said softly, "I get it."
Get it? Just like that?
Her calm and indifferent demeanor made Everett furrow his brows, sending a wave of unease through him. Only someone who doesn't care would react like that, right? But he was caught up in this now, and how could he just watch her stay so composed?
Everett swallowed hard, his lips moving a few times before he finally spoke, "Selena, do you... do you really love Rhett?"
Since that day, this question had been eating away at him. He had avoided seeing Selena, afraid he'd lose control and demand an answer. Yet, he dreaded that the answer might be what he feared most. If it was... he might spiral again, doing something reckless.
Selena hated him when he was like that, and he didn't want to add another mark against him in her eyes, even though he knew his image was already tarnished beyond repair.
Selena's voice stayed light and emotionless, "Does it matter whether I do or not?"
"It does."
Without missing a beat, Everett met Selena's eyes, "If you haven't fallen for Rhett, could you give me another shot? I swear I won't screw up again. From here on out, whatever you say goes. I won't even spare a glance for another woman."
Selena didn't flinch, letting out a dry laugh, "Everett, I can't trust your words anymore. Haven't you fed me enough of these sweet lines? Besides, I'm pregnant with another man's child. Can you really deal with that?"
"Knowing you, how could you ever be okay with raising someone else's kid? Even if you're fine with it now, when things get tough, you'll harp on my past mistakes. Then what?"
"No."
Everett spoke earnestly, “Selena, I admit I've been immature, stubborn, and unfair in our relationship. I always made you adapt and

"I never faced my own issues, but now I see them. I'll change, little by little, if you're willing to give me a chance, to watch over me, guide me. As for the child, I pushed you away. I can't blame anyone else, but promise to treat the child as my own, just like Mateo and Haley."
"Really?"
Selena remained unmoved, "Let go of me."
Though reluctant, Everett loosened his grip. Selena gave a cryptic smile and
walked away without another word.
Everett stood there, watching her determined steps, feeling a deep sense of loss. The fireworks continued to light up the sky behind him, but the celebration felt distant, as if the only warmth in his world was slipping further away.
Was he really unable to win her back, no matter what?
From the sidelines, Mila, who'd been watching, couldn't hold back any longer and rushed over, “Everett, are you so caught up in business that you've lost your mind? What are you standing here for? Go after her!"
Everett's eyes were dull, and he remained glued to the spot.
Mila, exasperated, almost shouted, "Don't you get it? Selena hasn't flat-out rejected you, which means she's waiting to see what you'll do next!"
Everett blinked in surprise, "Really?"
What do you think?
