Chapter 943
Chapter 943:
“Besides,” he added, “we’re heading to see Grandma now. There’s no time for small talk.”
Floyd stiffened, caught off guard by the display. It was clear he was being brushed aside. Still, he couldn’t make a scene, so he forced a faint smile. “You two go on ahead,” he said evenly.
Before they left, Floyd turned his attention back to Allison. “Allison, if you ever need anything, I’m always here for you,” he offered, his voice soft.
Allison returned his words with a polite smile. “Of course. I haven’t forgotten—I owe you dinner. Kellan and I will thank you properly then.” Her tone, while friendly, held a formality that subtly drew a line between them.
Floyd felt a sharp twinge of jealousy, but he kept his expression calm, letting a strained smile linger. “Alright, we’ll talk about it another time,” he replied lightly.
The dinner itself wasn’t what mattered to him. What truly stung was the realization—Allison’s feelings for Kellan were genuine.
Once Floyd had gone, Allison and Kellan made their way to Kinslee’s room.
Knock, knock, knock! Allison tapped gently on the door.
A slow, soft voice answered from inside, “Come in.”
Allison pushed the door open, revealing Kinslee propped up against her bed. Her face was turned toward the window, where sunlight poured in, making the flowers on the windowsill appear even more vibrant. Kinslee had a serene, calm presence. Her gentle eyes lingered on the flowers and the birds fluttering outside.
Kellan’s fingers instinctively tightened just slightly. “Grandma, I’m back,” he said warmly.
At the sound of his voice, Kinslee turned her head slowly.noveldrama
“Kellan?” she said, her voice tinged with surprise and joy.
The moment her eyes landed on him, her face lit up.
“Come closer,” she said, her tone affectionate. “Let Grandma have a good look at you.”
Her vision wasn’t sharp, so she fumbled slightly before putting on her reading glasses. After years of feeling foggy-headed, moments of clarity like this were rare for her.
But as her gaze shifted to Allison, her expression froze.
Her face betrayed her surprise as she stared for a moment.
“Are you… are you Lily’s daughter?” she asked, her voice trembling slightly.
Allison stood still, frozen in place. That name had reached her ears for the second time. She knew that “Lily” had to be her mother’s old nickname.
“Kinslee, do you know my mother?” she asked.
Lowering herself slightly, Allison knelt so she could look directly into the elderly woman’s face. She tried her best to sound steady, but her voice wavered a little. Deep down, she was terrified that everything she had worked toward had been in vain. She also worried that after so many years, Kinslee’s memory might fail her.
“My dear, of course, I know her,” came the reply.
