“Could it be you’re overthinking this?” Jarred asked, at a loss for how to convince Stella.

Stella was incredibly stubborn. Despite Bryan and Eileen having been away for a long time and the many events that had unfolded, she still harbored doubts about whether Gabriela was Bryan’s daughter. The striking resemblance between Gabriela and Eileen was undeniable, particularly in their facial features. If there was any similarity between Gabriela and Bryan, it was in the shape of their faces.

Jarred had tried to convince Stella to let the matter go several times, but Stella refused to listen to him. “I’ve managed the Dawson family affairs for many years. I cannot afford such a colossal error,” Stella asserted. “When Bryan arrives tomorrow, you must help me convince him to take a paternity test with Gabriela.”

With no other options, Jarred reluctantly agreed.

The following morning, shortly after Stella finished her breakfast, Bryan arrived at the Dawson Mansion. He wasn’t alone; Eileen and Gabriela accompanied him. The three exited the car and walked toward the mansion together. Stella, who had risen to greet Bryan, promptly sat back down upon noticing Eileen’s presence.

Gabriela glanced around, her eyes wide with curiosity upon noticing Stella’s movement.

“Gabriela, that’s your great-grandmother,” Eileen said after acknowledging Stella. She then crouched down, nudged Gabriela forward, and said, “Go and say hello to her.”

Stella offered a smile and stood up. “Did you return yesterday?” She intentionally overlooked Gabriela. Despite her young age, Gabriela picked up on this and, after a brief step forward, retreated back into Eileen’s embrace.

Eileen stood up with Gabriela in her arms and chose to remain silent.

Bryan replied in a deep tone. He took Gabriela from Eileen and said, “We just got back, and Gabriela is still adjusting. We woke up quite early today, so Eileen and I will take her upstairs to rest first.”

As Stella was about to say something, Bryan turned away with a frown. Bryan’s room upstairs was bathed in sunlight, creating a warm atmosphere.

Although Gabriela had been sleepy during the journey here, the fresh environment invigorated her. She only lay in bed for ten minutes before scampering around the room.

“Does Stella want to talk to you about something?” Eileen asked, propping her head with one hand. Her long black hair cascaded down her neck as she watched Bryan intently while he sat on the bed.

Although they had just arrived back in Onaland and Eileen thought they should visit Stella even if she didn’t request it, when Eileen had entered the mansion, she had noticed that Stella’s greeting lacked the warmth she had anticipated. In fact, Stella had seemed somewhat displeased. Being an adult, Eileen was attuned to the subtle undertones of unspoken emotions.

Bryan, who had been resting with his eyes closed, suddenly opened his eyes at Eileen’s observation and explained, “Well, we’ve just returned to Onaland, so she expects us to visit her.”

“Are you sure she meant us?” Eileen gestured to herself and Gabriela. “Maybe she only wants to see you.”

Before Bryan could respond, a knock at the door interrupted their conversation.
