The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains

Chapter 443 Endless Self-Blame

Sophia's plan worked like a charm on Dean.

He immediately perked up, excused himself from the guests, and followed Archibald out the door.

"Hey, where you headed?" Dean called out to Archibald, who was about to get into his

car.

"JM Jewelry Company needs me for something. Gotta go," Archibald lied smoothly. But Dean, having grown up with him, saw right through it.

Dean scoffed, feeling a surge of disdain. He stepped forward and confronted Archibald again. "Is it really JM Jewelry Company that needs you? Or is it that woman, Emily?"

Archibald caught the hostility in Dean's tone. He paused, then frowned, equally annoyed. "Why do you care so much? Are you gonna restrict my freedom now?"

Both brothers had similar temperaments; neither could stand being threatened.

Seeing Archibald's anger, Dean knew his suspicion was correct. This made him even more unbalanced, recalling what Sophia had said earlier.

"Today is the first day of my studio's opening. Can't whatever you need to do wait until tomorrow? Archibald, you are my brother."

Archibald felt a warm rush of familial affection. After all, Dean was his only family in the world.

Archibald didn't have anything urgent with Emily, and knowing Dean's pettiness, he would hold a grudge forever if Archibald left today.

So, Archibald closed the car door, patted Dean on the shoulder, and smiled. "Alright, today is your big day. I'll stay."

Dean's lips curled into a smile, though it was somewhat forced and unnatural.

As the sun set over Emerald City a few dark clouds gathered on the horizon.

It was visiting time again. Michael put on his protective gear and slowly walked into the ICU.

Emily seemed to be doing much better. Her complexion had a bit more color. Michael was overjoyed and took her hand, starting to talk.

"Emily, seeing you get better bit by bit makes me so happy... You're lucky, and I'm so grateful for you protecting our child... I'm really sorry, Emily. I was wrong. I've owed you so much over the years, and I can never repay it all... I know you hate me, and you should. Just like Abigail said, I was a jerk."

What started as a monologue turned into a heartfelt apology to Emily.

Michael seemed lost in his deep regret and pain, his eyes welling up with tears as he began to cry by her bedside. His tears soaked into the sheets and Emily's fingers.

He didn't notice that Emily had slowly opened her eyes, tears forming at the corners, looking a bit lost.

Emily lowered her head, seeing Michael still drowning in his sorrow.

Having once loved him, how could Emily bear it?

Unconsciously, she raised her hand and placed it on Michael's shoulder.

Feeling the gentle touch, Michael was momentarily stunned. He looked up quickly to see Emily, her eyes filled with tears.

Michael was overjoyed, laughing and crying at the same time. His tears fell on Emily's hand, creating a ripple of emotions between them.

"The latest tests show no major issues, but you'll need to stay in the hospital for further observation," Daniel said, closing the medical chart with a smile. "Emily, you and the baby are really lucky."

Emily smiled, gently rubbing her still-rounded belly. "It's Harry protecting me. And thank you, Daniel. I heard you were in the operating room."

Before Daniel could respond, Michael chimed in, "Yes, thank you on behalf of Emily and Harry."

Though men often don't overthink things, Daniel could see from Michael's eyes that he was asserting his claim and hinting at something.

Indeed, at this moment, Daniel couldn't compete with Michael. Not only was Michael the father of the child, but he had also risked his life to save Emily and stayed by her side, barely eating or drinking, crying constantly.

Michael, the once radiant and domineering CEO, had visibly lost weight and looked haggard.

So, Daniel excused himself, leaving the room to Emily and Michael.

The atmosphere in the room became tense.

Looking around the well-equipped room, Emily knew it was Michael's doing. He was always so generous.noveldrama

Being with him, she never had to worry about material needs, but every good day came at the cost of constant emotional strain and grievances.

Thinking about this, Emily sighed.

Michael noticed and became anxious. "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"

Seeing Michael so nervous, Emily felt a bit uncomfortable. She shook her head, her gaze falling on a noticeable burn on his hand.

"You're hurt too," Emily said, frowning.

Michael looked at his hand, a severe burn that was hard to ignore. But he had never felt the pain.

Seeing Emily hurt, he couldn't care about his own discomfort.

At that moment, Michael realized he truly, deeply loved the woman before him, but it was too late.

"It's nothing. It doesn't hurt."

Really? Emily's heart ached seeing it.

She blinked but didn't show her pain, instead asking Michael, "Is Abigail's house completely uninhabitable now?"

Then she answered her own question, "It's my fault. I was too careless. I forgot about the oatmeal on the stove and fell asleep, causing this disaster."

"Abigail must be heartbroken. It's all my fault." Emily lowered her head, starting to cry.

Abigail's job had just stabilized, and now Emily had accidentally burned down her house.

They say pregnancy makes you forgetful, but this mistake was too big!
