The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains

Chapter 441 The Fire Rages

Emily felt increasingly overwhelmed with household chores as her pregnancy progressed.

After tidying up for a bit, she was exhausted and drained of energy.

Having woken up too early, she was now extremely tired. She only meant to rest on the couch for a moment but soon fell asleep without locking the door.

This gave Sophia the perfect opportunity to act.

Sophia had always been ruthless. She slipped through the door. Watching the sleeping Emily and her rounded belly, Sophia clenched her fists, gritted her teeth, and smiled cruelly.

"Emily, maybe we were destined to be enemies. God has given me good luck. Whenever I want to kill you, an opportunity always arises... Don't worry, once you and your child are dead today, I'll take care of things with Michael and Archibald."

Her words were sincere, etched into her heart.

Sophia's plan to kill was urgent but spontaneous.

She hadn't even decided how to do it when suddenly, there was a noise from the kitchen. The oatmeal Emily had been cooking was bubbling on the stove.

Sophia thought, "This must be God's help."

She walked to the stove, turned up the heat, and then, unwilling to leave anything to chance, searched for a lighter and set the living room curtains on fire. This time, Emily was doomed.

Thinking about Emily's death, Sophia imagined the peace returning to Emerald City. As her sister, she could step in as the grieving relative, organize the funeral, and put on a tearful show.

Those foolish men would believe her instantly.

Sophia's face twisted with excitement, her eyes and brows trembling slightly. Under the

firelight, her beautiful yet terrifying face became grotesque and hideous.

Michael and Andrew arrived five minutes later, just after Sophia had left.

Michael was there to check on the house.

He couldn't bear to cut ties with Emily completely, especially with her due date approaching. The thought of Emily carrying his child while being with another man drove him to sleepless nights.

So, Michael decided to secretly move into Abigail's neighborhood.noveldrama

He didn't trust Andrew to handle it alone.

He wanted a place close to Emily but didn't want her to know he was there.

Finding the right house took time.

That day, Michael decided to see for himself.

"Mr. Smith, this is the place we looked at earlier..." Andrew's words trailed off as he noticed something in the distance.

Michael followed his gaze and saw flames and smoke.

"Just our luck, a fire breaks out as soon as we arrive," Andrew remarked.

But Michael felt a sudden tension.

"That's Abigail's house!" he shouted.

Michael rushed in and carried an unconscious Emily out of the house. No matter how he called her name, she remained unresponsive.

"Emily! Emily! You and the baby must be okay. If you die, how will I live?"

Michael's desperation grew as the fire raged, with Andrew's summoned firefighters battling the flames. The fire consumed everything, including Michael's last hope. Emily, fortunately, had some luck. The oatmeal had overflowed, and Abigail had neglected to pay the gas bill, causing the fire to die down before Emily could inhale too much smoke. The curtains, however, continued to smolder, eventually igniting the house until Michael arrived.

Soon, an ambulance arrived.

Emily, unconscious, was placed on a stretcher. Her face was pale, her body stiff and helpless, with burns marring her exposed skin.

Michael's anguished cries continued as Emily was treated.

Abigail was the first to be notified, rushing to the scene.

Daniel, not Michael, had informed her.

Daniel, on duty at the hospital, was shocked when Emily arrived. After quickly learning the situation from Andrew and seeing Michael's distress, he decided to notify Abigail. Pressed for time and worried about Emily, Daniel didn't explain the situation to Abigail. Abigail assumed Emily's injuries were due to another confrontation with Michael.

At the hospital, Abigail, usually cheerful and optimistic, was furious. She grabbed Michael by the collar, glaring at him.

Abigail didn't care about the house. Compared to Emily, it was insignificant.

She couldn't understand why Michael clung to Emily. Would he only be satisfied if he destroyed his former wife and killed his own child?

"Are you happy now?" Abigail's voice trembled with emotion.

Andrew tried to intervene. "Abigail..."

"Let me go!"

Ignoring Andrew, Abigail, tears streaming, kept her voice low in the hospital but seethed with anger at Michael.

"Are you satisfied with what you've done to Emily? Michael, I never thought you could

be so cruel... Why can't you leave Emily alone? She loved you for so many years, gave you everything, and this is how you repay her!"
